The general aim of the project is to promote and raise awareness among Ravenna’s citizens on the importance of the 2030 Agenda and the goals at the centre of the Shaping Fair Cities project (in particular SDG 5, 11, 13, 16), with a special focus on the transversal issues of migration and gender equality. The proposal is in line with the 2019-2021 Executive Management Plan of the Municipality of Ravenna with regard to Immigration Policies, in particular for the promotion of peace education and human rights’ knowledge and awareness-raising initiatives, and for the improvement of the civic participatory process between migrant institutions and communities, active citizenship and the promotion of the participation of associations in city life.
The project in fact foresees the involvement of citizenship, through civil society organizations, in a participatory planning process, aimed to:
- promote a respectful culture towards gender differences, also through innovative actions capable of reaching a broad audience, primarily young and very young people;
- sensitize the population to a sustainable, integrated and flexible use of urban spaces, to cities’ environmental impact, through a reflection on virtuous practices and experiences. Part of the initiatives are intended to take place in regenerated urban locations;
- involve citizens in the reflection on the urgent issues of climate change mitigation, impact adaptation and reduction and early warning;
- promote the knowledge of the laws, a reflection on human rights and the need to protect even the most disadvantaged members of the population, against any discrimination.
The same methodology adopted for participatory planning guarantees the involvement of subjects with different backgrounds: from theater to environmental protection, from diaspora to children culture, from sport to art. The aim is to make organizations an active part of the path that will lead to the creation of initiatives open to the citizenship.
