Female empowerment - Women in Lebanon's informal settlements learn how to use fire extinguishers

WeWorld works in North Bekaa and Akkar, two predominantly agricultural areas that host half of the refugees living in Informal Tented Settlements in Lebanon. The communities living in these settlements expressed their continuous fear of fire inside their shelters, one of the big issues when living in tents. Through the Community Protection Approach (CPA) implemented in the area, WeWorld gave voice to the community members that suggested the provision of a fire extinguisher and a fire safety training that equally tackles men and women, as a key solution that might mitigate and control fires. Today, women in the ITS know what to do if a fire erupt and are able to use fire extinguishers without having to wait for their men to come back.

Sumoud, 13, from the Al-Hadidiya community is among thousands of children in the Jordan valley who are facing daily challenges that affect access to education. The right to education is a fundamental human right that does not admit discrimination or exclusion. Education for all is also objective 4 on the 2030 Agenda. We believe high-quality education is a means to fulfill everyone’s potential and obtain social progress - a tool to favour global citizenship.

Stuck in time_10 years of war in Syria

More than 6,7 million people have managed to flee from Syria since the beginning of the war. Of these, 1,5 million - mostly women and children - are displaced in Lebanon. Around 75,500 women and 167,000 children are estimated to be living in informal settlements in Lebanon. Here, they often face a lack of access to basic services and goods. For many of them, time stands still. These are stories of resilience and hope that we want to shine a light on to lend a voice and a face to those who have been left behind with nothing.

Let's move forward, together. #Stuckintime

Stuck in Time_Abir's story

On 15th March 2021, it was 10 years since the beginning of the conflict in Syria. During this time, Abir and many other women like her have never stopped fleeing the conflict. They sought refuge in Lebanon, under conditions that are not always adequate and able to offer them a decent and dignified life beyond the emergency. We want to celebrate their strength and resilience, lending a voice and a face to those who have been left behind with nothing. #StuckinTime
